Application guide for ready-to-use microcement
1. Cleaning and substrate preparation
Carefully check that the wall or floor to be coated with Béton Ciré ready-to-use microcement is level, stable and consolidated.
Repair any imperfection that may affect the correct bonding of the system, such as flaking areas, loose pieces, paint in poor condition, etc. Then clean the substrate thoroughly, removing grease, dust or any other residue.
2. Moisture treatment
It is essential to treat negative moisture in the substrate with a product specifically designed for this purpose, such as our BetonPox. Once rising damp or vapour moisture has been blocked, proceed with priming the substrate according to its characteristics.
3. Joint filling, if required, and substrate priming
If the surface to be renovated with our ready-to-use microcement is tiled, the joints must be filled before applying Béton Ciré ready-to-use microcement. In this case, use BetonPrim Jointer filler on tiles, floor tiles, terrazzo, marble, etc.
After 12-24 hours, prime the interior wall or floor with BetonPrim 100 for absorbent surfaces or BetonPrim 200 for non-absorbent surfaces.
4. Apply 2 coats of BetonPret Grand ready-to-use microcement
Regardless of the type of surface to be coated, whether trafficable or non-trafficable, apply 2 coats of BetonPret Grand ready-to-use preparation microcement. Use a burn-free Bi-Flex steel trowel or a polycarbonate trowel at a 45º angle.
Allow each coat to dry for 4 to 8 hours, depending on the humidity of the environment and the substrate. Then sand with 40-grit sandpaper.
5. Apply 1 coat of BetonPret Moyen or 2 coats of BetonPret Fin
This is where the system begins to differ according to the surface being coated. The ready-to-use microcement used as the finishing layer, as well as the number of coats required, will depend on the surface.
a) Interior floors: BetonPret Moyen
Apply a single coat of BetonPret Moyen using the same trowel angle, 45º. After drying, sand with 80-grit sandpaper to reduce imperfections and burrs.
b) Interior walls: BetonPret Fin
Apply 2 coats of BetonPret Fin, respecting the same drying time of 4-8 hours between coats and the same 45º trowel angle. Use 220-grit sandpaper to leave the wall as even and smooth as possible.
6. Final protection
After completing the application, the interior wall or floor needs a curing period, which usually takes place within the following 24 to 48 hours. From this point, the surface must be sealed to protect the ready-to-use microcement.
The recommended sealing system is:
- For walls: 3 coats of BetonSeal Finition Tout En Un, allowing 3-4 hours of drying time between coats.
- For floors or maximum protection: 2 coats of BetonSeal Finition Total, allowing 18 to 36 hours of drying time between coats.
